At what age can I have my rabbit
neutered?
You can have your rabbit spayed or
castrated from four months old.
Do we advise neutering of
rabbits?
We would advise castration of a
male rabbit if he were particularly aggressive and spaying of a
female rabbit to reduce the risk of womb tumours. If you have a pair
of rabbits then spaying the female rabbit would be the preferred
choice.
When can I have my rabbit
vaccinated?
Vaccination can be started from 6
weeks old and booster vaccinations should be given annually in the
spring or in the face of a known outbreak every 6 months.
What should my rabbit be
vaccinated against?
Myxomatosis and viral haemorrhagic
disease are both fatal diseases for which there are no cures.
Should I feed my rabbit
vegtables or a commercial diet?
In an ideal situation pet rabbits
should be fed to mimic the diets or wild rabbits. The best diet for
a rabbit is grass and good quality hay. It is advisable to
supplement this diet with a commercial diet of pellet form. Pellet
form diets are the best form of commercial diet as they stop the
rabbit from selective eating i.e. Picking out grains and pulses.
